Sun Rise Mask
The Sun Rise Mask is the first mask in the series. It's structure is inspired by several different African tribal masks. One that struct me in particular, Senufo masks, are believed to have the power to help communication with dead ancestors. In this case I was looking to connect with the ancient energy of the sun rise. There is a practice in Buddhism called the sun rise philosophy which focuses continually on the new day. It is a practice filled with positivity and openness oppose to a setting sun practice which is more doom and gloom. The Sun Rise Mask is covered in the imagery of the sun rise and it's tall oval shape covering the neck and forehead as well as the wig over the head is reminiscent of many ancient war mask. Although I wouldn't suggest fighting in this mask I wanted the wearer of the mask to feel that excited energy as they put it on. Besides, peace, love, joy, and positivity do not always come easy, one must be prepared.
